Il talento di Jim Morrison come poeta è da tutti riconosciuto, anche se pochi sanno che negli ultimi mesi prima della morte aveva deciso di rinunciare alla carriera di rockstar per dedicarsi a tempo pieno alla poesia. I suoi appunti sono un archivio diivio di intuizioni creative, lo specchio di un talento multiforme, e il libro ne è una specie di antologia. E’ un distillato delle immagini più toccanti, dei versi che hanno fornito lo spunto per le canzoni, ma ci sono anche brevi accenni di sceneggiature di film, rime che si prestano a essere canticchiate come filastrocche e vere e proprie liriche struggenti, degne dei poeti più maturi e riflessivi. Nell’estate del 1971, al momento della sua tragica e misteriosa morte, il leader dei Doors aveva scritto più di settecento pagine di poesie, aneddoti, epigrammi, saggi, racconti, soggetti e sceneggiature. Raccolte e riordinate dagli amici, quelle pagine sono confluite in questo volume, che ripropone, con l’originale a fronte, liriche e appunti.
