Icon Audio Ltd. è una piccola azienda situata in Leicester (UK), che si dedica interamente alla progettazione e produzione di amplificatore a valvole ed apparecchi hi-fi, esaltando i suoni 'vintage' di stile britannico e statunitense. DESCRIZIONE UFFICIALE: Se sei alla ricerca dell'ultima parola in fatto di alta definizione e dolcezza, con potenza contenuta, la 2A3 è la valvola ideale. La valvola 2A3 è un vero triodo, nato sette anni prima della WE 300B (datata 1937). Quando si progetta un amplificatore, non si tratta solo di usare buoni componenti, ma di ottenere la "sinergia" giusta, e quindi fare in modo che la musica non risulti meccanica o artificiosa. In questo senso, consideriamo l' ST40-2A3 uno degli amplificatori più "musicali" e facili da ascoltare che abbiamo mai realizzato! Una dichiarazione audace, ma siamo sicuri che sarete d'accordo. Il feedback ricevuto dai clienti nel corso del tempo ci conferma che la maggior parte degli ascoltatori preferisce il "suono del triodo" rispetto a quello delle valvole più moderne. La potenza di 17 Watt per canale potrebbe non sembrare elevata, ma con diffusori dall'efficienza media si riesce a sonorizzare una qualsiasi stanza in modo energico. L'amplificatore Icon Audio ST40-2A3 non possiede numerose e particolari valvole di segnale, pertanto i costi di gestione sono contenuti dovendo limitarsi quasi solo alle valvole di potenza 2A3, che tendono a costare meno rispetto alle più quotate 300B. Un vero amplificatore "High End" può essere prodotto e gestito ad un prezzo ragionevole e senza compromessi tra qualità e costo. Il telaio base della nostra nuova serie Stereo 40 è esattamente ciò di cui un vero ascoltatore potrebbe aver bisogno, esso integra trasformatori di alimentazione e di uscita progettati su specifiche. Le valvole 6SL7 e 6SN7 possiedono esattamente le caratteristiche che stavamo cercando (un suono più "liquido" rispetto ai modelli di ECC più piccole), essendo anche più robuste e durevoli. Una valvola raddrizzatrice 274B (la valvola centrale) contribuisce a fornire lo sfondo sonoro nero e silenzioso. La generosa alimentazione impiega 8 grandi condensatori nella tradizionale configurazione a â€Å"Pi”. Ciò fornisce la bassa impedenza richiesta e una grande riserva di corrente disponibile per i transienti. Il Ripple e il rumore di fondo sono molto contenuti, con il vantaggio di una elevata resistenza al rumore in radiofrequenza proveniente dalla corrente di rete. I trasformatori di uscita possiedono un terzo avvolgimento extra che, semplificando, permette ai trasformatori di uscita la comparazione tra l'ingresso e l'uscita e di annullare la distorsione. Le prestazioni sono incrementate, così tanto che viene applicata solo una ridotta quantità di feedback globale. Crediamo che i nostri esperti avvolgitori di trasformatori abbiano fatto un lavoro eccellente. I nostri trasformatori sono costruiti con filo di rame 4N (purezza 99.9999%). Questa combinazione fornisce una scena sonora molto dettagliata e levigata che riproduce i colori e la tessitura delle vecchie registrazioni senza enfatizzare la durezza di molte registrazioni digitali moderne. In breve, lo Stereo 40 MKIII 2A3 è un amplificatore capace di risolvere l'altissima definizione e con cui è facile convivere poiché possiede tanta corrente per pilotare dei diffusori moderni. Lo Stereo 40 MKIII 2A3 utilizza il metodo "Fixed Bias" per il funzionamento delle valvole. Questo è il vantaggio di una maggiore potenza, di un feedback più basso e di un funzionamento più freddo. Tuttavia, si consiglia di controllare una volta o due volte l'anno la lettura del bias utilizzando un comunissimo tester per garantire le migliori prestazioni dall'amplificatore. La tensione di polarizzazione per questo amplificatore è di 240mv DC. Questa operazione è semplicissima e si effettua con il piccolo cacciavite in dotazione in quanto la regolazione sara' ESTERNA, ogni valvola finale è affiancata dal regolatore!
