Ringo Starr (al secolo Richard Starkey), noto come il batterista dei favolosi Beatles, il 7 luglio compie 76 anni. Nato nel 1940 è il più vecchio dei quattro Beatles, dif atto John Lennon nacque il 9 ottobre 1940. Fu l'ultimo ad entrare nel celebre gruppo, ed il suo debutto ufficiale con i Beatles è datato 18 agosto 1962 al "Cavern" di Liverpool, città natale di tutti e quattro! Dopo lo scioglimento del gruppo (1970), come gli altri suoi colleghi, ha continuato nel mondo della musica, e tutt'ora suona con il suo gruppo ALL STARS. Per ricordare questo felice anniversario, il maestro Alex Schiavi (che vide i Beatles a Milano nel loro concerto serale al Vigorelli di Milano, 23 giugno 1965!) fa omaggio a tutti colori che verranno a prendersele di manifesti locandine raffiguranti lo stesso Ringo Starr. Tug of War è il quindicesimo album da solista di Paul McCartney ed è il primo uscito dopo l'omicidio di John Lennon, cui è dedicata Here today. Trainato dal singolo Ebony and Ivory, cantato in coppia con Stevie Wonder, l'album ebbe alla sua uscita un ampio successo internazionale ed è considerato ancora oggi una delle migliori prove del McCartney solista. Dopo la conclusione dell'avventura con i Wings, McCartney richiamò il suo vecchio produttore dei tempi dei Beatles, George Martin, per iniziare a registrare una canzone scritta per il personaggio animato Rupert Bear (del quale McCartney deteneva i diritti), intitolata We All Stand Together. Le sedute di registrazione si prolungarono fino al 9 dicembre 1980, quando al mattino, McCartney si svegliò apprendendo la notizia che il suo vecchio partner artistico, John Lennon, era stato assassinato la sera prima all'uscita di casa sua a New York. Abbandonando le sedute di registrazione (dove Paul e Denny Laine stavano ultimando la futura B-Side Rainclouds), sia Martin che McCartney decisero che era meglio accantonare il progetto momentaneamente, per poi ricominciare appena si fossero sentiti pronti. Nel febbraio 1981, due mesi dopo l'omicidio di Lennon, Paul McCartney ritornò in sala di incisione, insieme a Stevie Wonder, Stanley Clarke, Carl Perkins e Ringo Starr, producendo diverse nuove canzoni durante le sessioni. Naked è opera di Paul McCartney, che ha voluto proporre al pubblico Let It Be nella forma in cui i Beatles lo avevano concepito. La pubblicazione originale di Let It Be (1970) era stata, infatti, ampiamente arrangiata dal produttore Phil Spector, in modi non sempre condivisi dai Beatles. In particolare, McCartney si era sempre detto molto insoddisfatto della produzione di The Long and Winding Road, arricchita da Spector con una pomposa sezione d'archi, e recuperata in Naked nella sua forma originale; lo stesso vale per Across the Universe, che nella riedizione del 2003 compare nella versione originale, suonata dai soli Lennon e Harrison. In Naked appare anche il brano Don't Let Me Down, escluso dalla versione del 1970 e comparso poi nella raccolta postuma Hey Jude; anche in questo caso, la versione presente in Naked è diversa da quella precedentemente pubblicata. Sono stati invece esclusi da questa riedizione i brani Dig It e Maggie Mae. Il progetto di Naked, voluto da McCartney, è stato approvato anche da George Harrison prima della morte, da Yoko Ono e da Ringo Starr. Il secondo disco, presente solo in alcune edizioni, contiene brani di conversazioni tra i membri del gruppo misti a prove di incisione. Alcuni di questi piccoli spezzoni dovevano essere inseriti nell'album originario, per ricreare lo spirito di una session, ma vennero poi esclusi in fase di mixaggio.
